President Donald Trump says he wants to “permanently pause migration†from poorer nations and is promising to seek to expel millions of immigrants from the United States by revoking their legal status. He is blaming immigrants for problems from crime to housing shortages as part of “social dysfunction†in America and demanding “REVERSE MIGRATION.†His most severe social media post against immigration since returning to the Oval Office in January came after two National Guard members were shot while patrolling the streets of the nation’s capital under his orders. One died and the other is in critical condition.

A federal judge’s 223-page opinion delivers a blistering account of federal agents using tear gas, rubber bullets and other force against Chicago-area protesters and journalists, often without warning or justification. U.S. District Judge Sara Ellis filed the opinion after reviewing body-camera footage that she says repeatedly contradicts federal officials’ sworn statements and reports. Ellis describes agents joking about “gassing†protesters, firing chemical agents at fleeing crowds and lying about key events, concluding that the federal government’s narrative is “simply not credible." The ruling is on hold after an appeals court intervened in the case this week.

A federal judge in Maryland says she will rule as soon as possible on whether Kilmar Abrego Garcia can be released from immigration custody. In a court hearing on Thursday, his attorneys noted that there is no final order of removal in his immigration records. U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis seemed to find that oversight significant. Abrego Garcia’s mistaken deportation to El Salvador has galvanized both sides of the debate over President Donald Trump’s immigration policies. Since his return to the United States, the government has been seeking to deport him to a series of African countries. His attorneys claim the government is illegally using the immigration system to punish him.
